Adobe Premiere Pro Challenge

As a way to reacquaint ourselves with using the editing software Adobe Premiere Pro, we were given an MP3 of the track 'Wings' by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, accompanied by its original music video cut into "chunks" - the task was to create our own version of the music video. We were discouraged from viewing the original video so we could use our own creativity and ideas to come up with a sequence. This gave us freedom to edit the footage to the track however we wanted; for example, the shots could directly match the lyrics, or have no relevance to them.

Evidence of me completing the challenge.
However, we were encouraged to use video effects, which I took advantage of in my edit - the last shot includes two effects including an effect that makes the shot look rough around the edges. We were also asked to include one example of lip - syncing, which I did. When Macklemore raps, "Ma I touched the net!" the lead child actor in the video is lip - syncing to that lyric.

Before this task, I had never edited footage to a song before, so it was a new experience for me and I managed to gain some new skills. Beforehand, I wouldn't have been able to edit the lyrics to the footage effectively, however now I have had this practice I feel more confident in my abilities. I also have to be more aware of editing to the beat, so the images match with the pace of the song and certain beats and inflexions it may have. I had previously edited with music for my AS coursework, but for this year's course my skills have to be even more refined and sharper.

This task has helped me and given me a lot to consider about what techniques I might use during the editing process. In addition, it has also made me consider my approach to the pre- production and production process; it's made me think more about whether I want my song to follow a narrative, or if I want my video to contradict the song.
