Research - Cloning

I am currently in the process of creating my storyboard animatic. During this creative development of transferring all of my concepts onto paper and visualising them through drawings, I continue to have various ideas which could work well within my music video and intend to incorporate them into my animatic.

One of those ideas is cloning. This is a technique which can be achieved in Adobe Premiere Pro. Cloning is where the person on screen appears more than once in the same frame. For example in the tutorial above, the man delivering the explanation is seen sitting on the left side of the sofa, and also on the right side of the sofa:

I think that this technique could work well in my music video - I am already including split screen where the actor appears multiplied three times performing the same action, with the split screen appearing in time to the beat. However, this is an extension and twist on this idea - the actor will appear on screen simultaneously, performing different actions whilst still lip synching to the song. In the chorus of the song, there is a repetition of the word "vain", which is where I propose to include the cloning technique.

The next stage to developing this idea further will be to practice this technique to see if it can be achieved effectively. I will film someone standing against a wall, turning their head to the right, left, looking above and then looking down. Next, I will move them a metre or so along the wall and have them perform the same or a different action and film it. Then I will upload the footage onto Adobe Premiere Pro and follow the instructions on the tutorial to accomplish the cloning effect. Through this process, I will be able to make a firm decision as to whether or not I want to include this approach in my music video for "Selfies".
